I have a 440ex kit installed with the wiseco 89 mm piston. I had the cylinder bored at a very experienced shop. Well when the engine is first started it smokes blue pretty good. Then when i warms up it stopps completely. I broke it in like i was suppose to and have been running it for a little over a month. It has been threw several tanks of gas now. It still smokes when cold but not once when warmed up. When i had my stock bore it never did this. Is this normal or do I have a problem. I run mobile1 motorcycle oil.

 

I think that you should have replaced your valve guides. They might be letting oil pass when the engine is sitting. the smoke is the oil that got pass the guides when sitting cold.

 

My brother's 440 is doing the same thing, and his is about 3 months old. I assumed the shop that did his put in new valve giulds/seats but i'm not sure.

I know that a 440 will burn a little oil, but we only see it in the oil tank being a 1/8 qt low after 2 rides, never any smoke. Mine and my buddies don't smoke, and we both have bigger valves, guides, Ti springs and were both from a different builder. Suspect valve guides, rings, or boring.
