Default 96 scrambler 400

Hi guys been away for a bit with a new born baby..

I am going to check out the front hubs and bearings on the scrammy. i checked the hub fluid though the drain hole bone dry... What else should i look for in there? The four wheel drive light on switch does not turn on nor four wheel work.

everything else looks pretty good.

some one said ATF fluid or should i just order Polaris hub. It appears all the fluid drained from seal around spindle.

Awd switch was tied into the shift box and if not positively engaged OR gear position switch in the shift box or if the shift box is worn,WON'T allow power to the on off switch light on the handle bars allowing awd to engage! (P.S. there is a small bulb in the push switch that can burn out also that has to be good or awd won't work also!Bad design on this model awd system!) On later models the gear position switch was moved to the transmission where it should have been in the first place! Hubs being dry doesn't help either! First off, push awd switch on,place in high or low range. The awd light usually would come on in low range as MOST people use it less in awd regularly! If light doesn't come on in hi range, push the lever a little more forward. A lot of the times the light will come on which shows the switch may need replacing or the shift box is worn enough to not allow awd in high range because of slack!(AWD needs to be engaged in low range only, but a lot of people didn't!!) If the light comes on,then I would pull the hubs and check out the bearings, hilliard assy, armature plate, plus check for signs of leakage from the hub and strut seals. There are some videos on You Tube, plus another member,TLC has an excellent link to hub service.Use Polaris hub fluid! Hope this helps OPT
