well I found it, the drum for the starter clutch has come loose from the shaft. all the rivets that held the drum to the shaft came out so i need a new drum/shaft.


should there be oil in the starter clutch area? when I took the shaft/cover off the starter clutch a little oil came out.

 

Look up the ENGINE CLUTCH at Cycle Parts Warehouse on your model and you will see that the inner bearing and shaft are lubricated,but has a seal stopping any oil from seeping past the the outer drum and clutch shoe! The breakdown will show the parts you need and explain better than I can! OPT

I had a new aftermarket CDI box, I bought a genuine polaris CDI and it fired right up.... go figure....

 

Now we know! That's what I asked you on the second page on the cdi...... I've had numerous complaints on non oem parts on the little ones causing problems.
