Default battery won't charge

hello , this is my first thread , i have a 2007 sportsman 800x2 that has been causing me greif, i would like to fix it my self , wont keep a battery charged , i changed batterys ,, i have changed volt reg, i noticed with a new battery it cranks up great runs great, when i turn the lights on and rev up the motor the lights will go out , i am use to them geting brighter not dimmer, i have looked for loose wires , seen none , have ordered another volt reg , for the first one was use, if a stator is bad it won't run at all ,right ,or will it run off the battery till it runs out of juice , how can i pin point my issue and solve it without takeing it to the shop .

Welcome to the forum! Since you bought a used voltage regulator this could be the problem? Also they changed numbers after 1/22/07 from 4011569 to updated #4011925. Plus the battery is in hard place to service and sometimes I've found cables that weren't tightened enough before the cover was put on that caused problems with keeping a charge on the battery.. Don't know if this helps or if this place has the regulator you need, but no harm trying. Polaris ATV Rectifier Regulator Wait until you have the new regulator and see if it cures the dimming problem since you have a new battery and make sure it's charging 14 volts back to the battery.. If the regulator doesn't help then it may be down to ohming out the stator or wire chasing.

DON'T unhook the battery while the engine is running!! You can damage the electronics! If you're showing 14.5 volts while running the charging system is good! Try the lights and see if they still dim and see if the voltage at the battery drops a lot,if so you could just have a dead cell in the battery and may need to be replaced. A battery can show good voltage, but can drop under a load if its getting weak. OPT

you know the 800 has 2 lights on bottom and one on top , when i thought the lights were getting dim was the one on top ,, this morning when i checked the volts the one on top would not come on , so i figure the bulb is shot , for the 2 on the bottom work .. again thanks for your help,
