Low engine oil

Low engine oil
In the spring I changed the oil and filter on my 2008 sportsman 800 (3700 mi). After a long season of riding I checked the oil and noticed it was a 1/2 qt low. I do not see any signs of the engine leaking and it does not seem to be burning oil. The air cleaner had alittle oil in it, but not enough to add up to a 1/2 qt. What should I do next???

This was a common problem on almost all the 800s we encountered at the shop. The Razr was the worst on using oil.Probably because of the way most were driven. You may not see it smoke, most people don't,but you have to keep a close check on these engines as they do consume oil.I've personally found several at almost a quart low that came through the doors. Most of these were ridden hard and the oil level wasn't checked regularly between oil changes. Just my on this, seems like two quarts even sometimes showed a tad bit low on the dipstick, especially on the Razrs the way the stick had to bend and curve down. You might at next oil change try a little more oil(about 8 ounces) as I don't think the dipstick marks have never been that accurate to begin with on the 800's whether on the atv or Razor. Just keep an eye out on the air box to see if too much crank case vent oily mist accumulating around or on the air filter precleaner. OPT
