Default 08 Sportsman X2 500 sputtering and then no start

2 weeks ago the quad started sputtering on harder acceleration or at speeds higher than 20 mph. Found rubbed wires to map sensor and repaired them. Went out next day and was good for 10 or 15 minutes then would sputter and not go at all. Idled fine. Started fine. Stop and wait for 5 mins and start and it would be normal for 1 to 2 minutes then could only idle. Took me an hour to go a couple of miles.

Fuel pressure checked out fine as did crank position sensor.

Decided to look at all the wiring with regards to sensors. Found more rubbed through. Fixed them. Took connector off ecu and checked continuity for all wires to all sensors. Everything checked out. Went to start it and NO START!

Throwing a bunch of codes but the code for fuel injector fault is the one I'm most concerned about. Have checked fuel injector and 12 volts on each wire. Resistance was in spec. When I turn key on the fuel pump turns on and power at coil. However, when I crank, the pump doesn't pump and there's no spark.

Any ideas? Dealer said he had a sled that was throwing the fuel injector shorted code and it turned out to be the ecu. He wants me to replace but I'm leery to drop the $ on a non returnable part.

Is there any conditions that would cause the ecu to not allow injection or spark other than a faulty ecu?

Thanks for your help.

Problem is that you can't just buy an ecu and plug it in even if the ecu is the problem!Plus codes can be thrown out that are bogus such as the fuel injectors, etc. The new ECU (if needed) has to be programmed by the dealer to your machine using Polaris Digital Wrench software! This is where efi systems limits what a DIY type person can do! The machine has to be hooked up first to see what the problem is. Sucks,I know, but this is better than trying to guess and trouble shoot wiring. Most dealers charge about one hr on checking out the system. It could be something simple that's causing the problems.
