Default CV Boot 1991 Trail Boss 240 4x4

My 1991 Trail Boss does not fit within the description of both of the manuals I have for it.

There is no pin to undo the ''U" joint and the CV will not come apart to remove at the axle spindle.

Also, how much fluid is recommended for the hubs? My manual says either to use Polaris hub fluid or "F" type transmission fluid.

Any help will really be appreciated.
Thank you!
Rob, Campbellford, ON Canada

Check that you don't have a sheared off spring pin at the yoke. All the 250 4x4s had a spring pin from 1987 on, unless someone has modified your machine with a different yoke??The cv joint has to be "tapped" out with a hammer off the shaft. I wouldn't worry about hub capacity, just drain it and fill it up. I always filled at 12 o'clock position and let it sit a while to let the fluid seep to all the bearings, then turned to 4 o'clock and drained until it slowed down to a trickle and installed the plug. A little extra fluid won't hurt. The old manuals called for type F transmission fluid, but the Polaris Demand Drive or the newer Demand Drive Plus hub fluid is better oil.

Default CV Boot

Thanks for your help! I will check again for a spring pin. The guy I bought the ATV from told me too much fluid in the hub would cause the 4wd not to work. Goes to show what he knows!

Thanks again!

Just don't fill the hubs up completely like I've had some people do! This will cause too much pressure on the hub and strut seal and will leak along with possibly affecting the awd function.
