Default 2005 700 sportsman issues

long story trying to help out a friend... her 700 was involved in a accident & the ecm melted ruining the plug also...replaced ecm & soldered in new plug...machine been sitting almost 4 years in a garage...new battery...put iso heet in tank incase of some water...did not idle right...when choked idle was higher than what I considered normal but when warmed was somewhat ok...kind of acts like a tight valve as idle does not return quickly after reved..I was told 700's are hyd valve lash & no adj..I found someone had adj the idle by the cable slack adjuster so I gave it some slack & cleaned pilot jet...still same problem with idle... except now backfires on decel also...any suggestions? possible bad 2nd ECM?

No adjustment on the 700 valves.Make sure you only have 1/8" slack at the thumb throttle, too much slack and the etc switch in the throttle housing will touch and kill the atv. Not enough slack can be dangerous when you turn sharply. Sounds like you need to do a through cleaning on the carb along with a carb kit or at least a new needle and seat. Sitting 4 years or more it's gonna need it along with a good oil and filter change, fuel tank flush, ect. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CARB-REBUILD-KIT-POLARIS-SPORTSMAN-700-02-03-04-05-06-/370391693031?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item563d10b6e7&vxp=mtr

Thanks for the speedy reply.... I will try the needle & seat...it actually looked pretty clean in the bowl....makes sense though as it has really strong fuel fumes while idling. Should have thought of it myself...I used to be a Honda tech in the 70's....getting rusty in my old retired age
