'01 500 engine fit a '00 400 chassis
I found a 2000 2-stroke Scrambler 400 4x4 with a blown motor and I have a 2001 4-stroke Scrambler 500 4x2. Will my 500 4-stroke engine fit in the 400 2-stroke chassis without too much work?(motor mounts, electrical, linkages, etc) Would most of the quad parts be interchangeable between the 2000 and the 2001? (rims, seat, shocks, transmission, etc) Thank you for your assistance.

Both are similar, but you'd need the rear plate to adapt for the 500 rear engine mounts, plus the top plate for the top engine mount, mounts for the oil tank, any radiator/hose changes that may be needed. Plus the obvious things such as the complete 500 harness, carb, modules, etc that the 500 uses.Engine mount brackets and getting the transmission to engine clearance correct for the clutches would be the hardest part. Since the frames are similar the question is why would you want to do this unless the 500 frame is junk or something?

Might be to your advantage if the 400 is worth fixing and if you can rebuild the engine at a reasonable cost + the $400 you have in it, just to fix it and keep the 500 as is.Kelley Blue Book
