this whole time that I have been saying white and black wire I was wrong and color blind... it is white with a blue stripe. I looked in my Clymer manual and it says that
CDI output at ignition coil-
ignition coil white/blue wire and ground 130VDC (With peak voltage adapter)
ignition coil white/blue wire and ground 20 DCV (Average with voltmeter)
ignition coil white/blue wire and ground 300VDC (With peak voltage adapter)
I don't have any idea what all this means but what they are showing is not negative, as for you last reply 1armbandit I did put a spark plug in the boot but I am not getting spark after the coil just getting power to the coil... whether I put the plug/test light/ and a spark plug tester in the sparkplug boot I do not get anything from the coil. I even held onto the plug and I did not get shocked....

the way I understand it, if you take the positive probe of the volt meter and put it on the negative terminal of a battery and then take the negative probe of the volt meter and put it on the positive terminal of the battery it will read negative (-) 12 volts or what ever the battery has for juice....

Back up a little and check resistance readings on the stator. Check resistance on the exciter coils:Red to green(1.6 ohms), Black/red to green(446 ohms) Pick up coil white to white/red (97 ohms) Coil primary(coil tab to ground 0.3 ohms) Coil secondary(coil tab to wire with cap on 6300 ohms, plug cap 5k ohms. All readings +/- 20%

Where are these wire located to do this? Behind the fly wheel? What was ur thought on getting a negative reading at the coil?

Pick up coil is this the regular coil that is under the black cover at the front of the wheeler? white to white/red (97 ohms)
Coil primary(coil tab to ground 0.3 ohms)
Coil secondary(coil tab to wire with cap I don't understand this lingo? wire with cap? spark plug wire? on 6300 ohms, plug cap 5k ohms I think because I don't understand the first part about the cap I don't understand this
