Default Pre Purchase Inspection in North Texas?

Looking at used quads. I would like to have a pre-purchase inspection done.

I've talked to a couple of dealer service departments and they don't seem all that interested in this type of work. When I asked for an example of what their checklist is, they just say "we'll look everything over, check the fluids, etc".

I am in the DFW area. Are there any shops or individuals that will really do this right? I don't want to spend $3500 and end up with immediate problems that could have been identified. Thank you for any help.

Most shop would do as the one listed, check fluids and note if dirty, air filter check, visual inspection of drive axles, boots, suspension etc,but that's about it. If they go any further such as checking valve clearances then you'd be asking for a major service not an inspection. And this is no guarantee that they'd find anything wrong. An independent shop might be willing to dig deeper into one,but again might cost more than just a visual inspection.

Good point. I'm willing to pay for a more thorough inspection, but honestly a little unsure of what exactly I should ask for beyond basic inspection. Is there a checklist thread that I should read?

Again even if a shop changes all fluids, a major service so to speak,no guarantee that they could spot a major problem without a good test ride and even that may not catch some things. The check list of checking fluid levels and condition of fluid,a clean or dirty air filter, any visual torn axle boots, drive chains if equipped, loose or worn suspension parts, any noticeable leaks is about as good as any shop will do. You will still take a chance on a used machine. If you have any doubts on a particular machine or its owner, pass it up and keep looking. Way too many used machines out there that are in pristine condition, some even garage queens, ridden once or twice and put up.Either that or buy a new one and now days even that is no guarantee that you won't have problems before the warranty is up.
