took it back apart, chain seems good BUT
when i go to put it TDC, the motor seems like it doesnt want to line right up, like its going over a lobe in the middle of it, my sprocket doesnt line up..heres a pic of where it "rests" when i have the flywheel in a very close ballpark of TDC..its either here or there, never feels like i can get it right on, like its off a tooth maybe, i had it lined up last time i was in there..i thought..(trying to get more input before i take the flywheel off and re time it...could/can it run like this since i did a head gasket last year???

heres another BUT lol....when i took the recoil off the starter bendix? was still sticking out on the flywheel..when i got it out it seems to retract fine and all...could that be the culprit..the battery was dieing at the end so maybe it just stuck this one time and has nothing to do with it

If the bendix has a weak spin out and return, just replace it as cheap as they are.. On the cam timing look at this guys pics as a refresher. If you can't line the plated links up with the lower crank sprocket and case mark and the two dots on the cam sprocket correctly, then might be time for a new cam chain.https://atvconnection.com/forums/pol...ml#post3305250

If cam timing is slightly off it's still possible to run ok but doesn't explain the noise you're having.Hope it had something to do with the bendix. If not, then you may have to dig deeper.

so im thinking the nut backed as far as it could go and the lower spocket moved over enough to skip up the timing?????is that plausible?? if not then i may have to get even deeper....
