Polaris predator issues
#1
Hello.. my son's Polaris predator 90 will start and idle great. As soon as you rev it it sounds like it has a rev limiter. I have checked everything basic and I am totally lost. A little direction would be appreciated

Could be several reasons for this but start out with the carb and fuel supply. Make sure fuel is getting to the carb and that carb internals are clean.Main jet, pilot jet clean and open along with all openings blown out. Also clean the needle and seat, make sure it's not sticking. You don't say what year model, but if it's an older 2 stroke, check that you have good exhaust flow. These old pipes could easily get stopped up with oily carbon over the years.Flushing them out with kerosene could help. If you rule fuel, carb out as the problem,a worn drive belt, worn clutch parts can basically do the same thing and cause limiting.

Then I'd do a compression check. May have enough to crank and idle as some I've seen, but couldn't take throttle if compression is too low.If you want more info on this here's a manual that can help.Has fuel, mechanical and electrical tests.Scrambler90 ,Sportsman 90 all the same.2001 Polaris Scrambler 90 Service Manual PDF Download

Ok so I did a little more tinkering today and jumped a screw driver across the spark plug. It is definitely the spark pulsating if that makes sense. Where do I go from here. Stator is clean all wires are tight that I can tell

Compression test just to rule it out as a problem. If it's within range, then I'd still check out fuel supply to the carb and recheck your cleaning work. Make sure the jets are clean, floats ok,not sticking. Air screw on these little ones are usually between 1 3/8 to 1.5 turns out. If you can rule that out, possible you could have an electrical break down and the manual can go through tests on that among other trouble shooting guides.
