I have a 2002 Sportsman 500 which stalls in reverse and from what I can tell, I fried a circuit in the speedometer when I had a bad battery and was constantly jumping the battery to start/use my ATV. I elected to replace the speedometer, however the speedometer I have has been discontinued and I can't find one anywhere. The speedometer is a Polaris part# 3280378. Does anyone know if another speedometer listed for my model will work? There is availability for Polaris part# 3280363. Any assistance or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

 

You may have a bad reverse limiter making it stall but I checked for speedometers for it. There were 2 different ones that year depending on if your ATV model is an AA, AB, AC, etc. And there were 2 others with km instead of miles.

So from what I understand is that my reverse limiter is in my speedometer and that is what "fried" when I had a low/bad battery. I've read that I can eliminate the reverse limiter or replace the speedometer. I wanted to try replacing the speedometer rather than cutting wires. I have not been able to find the speedometer (Polaris 3280378) which is the correct speedometer. It has been discontinued and nobody has one. My question is, there is another speedometer (Polaris 3280363) listed in the parts listing for the 2002 Sportsman 500. Does anyone know if this speedometer (Polaris 3280363) will work in place of the one my machine calls for (Polaris 3280378)?

 

I thought the 0378 may have been a replacement for the 0363. But they had 4 different upper headlight pods not counting all the different colors (11 different pods altogether), so it doesn't really look that way. Honestly I couldn't say the 0363 would work. If you can find one you could try it and see but it might not even fit the headlight pod. If it doesn't work out I'm sure someone else will be looking for one, and I think you would be able to sell it without much trouble.
