Default 2006 Polaris Sawtooth not holding charge

Hi all, new here and have found this forum to be a great resource! Thanks.

I just got a 2006 Polaris Sawtooth. Previous owner told me battery wasn’t holding charge so I got a new one. 12V 10ah. Charged it and put it in. Rode the atv for 25 minutes with lights on and came out the next day and would not start. Battery was dead so I recharged it. Started and ran fine on two 10 minute occasions. Anyway, went out again tonight, this time with lights off. Died during my trip, luckily my friend was there to tow me home. Battery died during the trip.

any ideas what the problem is? Where is stator located and how can I test to see if it’s working? Any ideas why this thing keeps dying?

thanks all!

tom

First guess is the battery is not being charged. With the machine running check output at battery cables, should be 13 volts or higher. You may also have a draw on the battery when shut off. I have saw new batteries with internal shorts, so have the new battery load tested at local auto parts store or battery shop.
