having problems charging the battery

Unhappy having problems charging the battery

hey guys i have a 2001 polaris sportsman 500 ho and i have found myself charging my battery every 1or2 weeks i tested the stator and it was fine where should i start first
and on top of that dont buy a older polaris lol

Not sure what stator tests you did but first thing is to check if bike is charging. Run engine, put voltmeter across battery, check what voltage you are getting at various revs, voltage should wander between 13v and 14.5v, switch off. Voltage should drop a bit. If it doesn't, it isn't charging. Then stator checks are in order, as a rule, stator shouldn't be earthed and all three phases should have the same resistance. If stator checks out, check for resistance in pos and neg wires to battery from regulator. If they are all OK, get a new regulator. If it is charging, remove a battery lead and with everything switched off, put a ammeter between lead and terminal, either no amps or 0.01A drain is allowable, much more and it will run the battery down slowly. If all is well your battery must be getting tired, buy a new one. If you do have a drain, disconnect the voltage regulator and see if the drain goes away.
