rubicon ground clearance???
#32
I was not referring to your misinformation post. I posted that post because I find it odd that Polaris guys are all wondering everything about the Rubicon like the ground clearance issue. And from what I can tell, you're all worried that maybe the Rubicon will turn out to be an excellent machine that may make your beloved Polaris' not look as mighty as you say they are. Who knows, maybe it will turn out to be a pile of garbage, but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I for one am just interested as it's something new and all the hype on it you can't help but be curios about it.It can go either way but if it does turrn out to be good innovations our beloved POLARIS will have to make some changes, and the consumer will be the winner.CM

How correct you are CM, It can only be good for us all. We are interested in the Rubicon if it works like Honda hopes for it to it will force Polaris and the others to make some changes.
Of course Honda ran the same basic platform on the 300 for how many years. I for one would be a happy camper if my sportsman would be as reliable as the 300 Hondas, it has been good so far though.
If Polaris works on the Realiablity issues that everyone keeps telling me about on here, but have yet to witness myself, hope Polaris will listen to that. Again good luck to Honda but dont expect me to go buy one i wouldnt have Sportsman if I hadnt of found a good deal on a used one. Im cheap. But i got what I wanted.

Except for a differrent type of auto tranny (not necessarily better)what would polaris do to keep up with the Rubicon? Make all there bikes straight axles with drum brakes and full time limited slip 4x4 and shorten the suspension travel and jack up the price big time.

I, for one, am not a Polaris guy. I am a quad guy. I love quads. All of them are cool with me. I'll take one each! I would never restrict myself to one brand of quad. Right now I can afford one quad, so I picked the one that was right for what I wanted, the Sportsman 500. Mind you if I could afford more than one my second quad would be a 400ex, but with those new machines coming I'd have to wait and see. If I could afford 3 machines the third would be a Scrambler 400 4x4 again depending on the new machinery coming to the market. I'd have to wait cause that Cannondale and the very rumored 660 Yamaha Soprt quad both sound very good.
That would give me:
A Big Bad (and comfortable) Sport/Utility Quad
- Sportsman 500
A High Performance Quad
- 400ex/Cannondale/New Yammaha/DS650
A Great FAST all-around trail blaster
- Scrambler 400 4x4, of course if the Cannondale and the new yamaha were both to good to resist
I'd have to get two High Performance Machines!
Glenn (The Quad Guy).

If I read it wrong and did that.. I do apologize...
I hope, as others do, that Honda has great success with it in the HOPES that it will force other manufacturers to come up with new stuff too... What I FEAR will happen is that the Honda WILL have great success (at $7000.00+) and other manufacturers will make a change or two to their line up and then THEY will raise their prices to $7000.00+.... THATS WHERE ITS HEADED.... And for that, we will ALL get screwed...
B4 we know it, it'll be $35,000.00-40,000.00 for the truck, $1000.00 for a decent trailer, and another $15,000.00 for two stock utility 4x4 machines....
If ATV manufacturers wanna impress me as a simple person; Build something that DOESN'T have cheaply made parts in it (yamaha bearings) has good ground clearance that is measured at a specific point (industry wide) doesn't have repeated problems/failures (pre 97 Polaris, the 350cc series Yamahas, Honda Brakes or the lack of) Generally fix what they already have on the market.... Kawasakis indifference to the fact that they dont sell half as many as Polaris or Honda OR Yamaha..
They ALL need to make some significant changes to their line-ups... WITHOUT raising the cost...
Ok, Ill get off my soapbox now....

Well I don't think because Polaris guys are questioning the Rubicon is because they are jealous it is just human nature to wonder about new things coming out...Tim1 pretty well hit it on the head I really don't think Polaris has anything to worry about till honda upgrades the Rubicon if they do. And if they do it will be good for all of us...I buy what money money buys the best if Honda was to add the 2 to 4 wheel drive switch where you could add lockers, some disc brakes maybe an IRS and lower that price some especially with Hondas reliability I would be in line tomorrow. I think the Rubicon will be a big seller this year but after the new wears off I think you will see a lot of people going back to the Polaris simply because all of the extras for the price of the bike...Nobody is jealous and I think as Mudmachine hope this thing with the Rubicon doesn't start a price war instead of improving the stuff you get with an atv. Nobody is jealous fellows we just want to see Honda add more stuff to there atv's and keep the price down...I am a Honda man at heart I cut my teeth on a Honda ATC 70 and still at times yearn for one if I could just figure how to lose about 80 pounds cause that was about 25 years ago.

I don't think anyone will run out and sell their Polaris and buy a Rubicon, at least not a lot. If I were a satisfied Polaris 500SP owner with a good dealership, I wouldn't trade. But, I think people happy with the Honda products they currently have, and the Honda dealers they buy from, will just be repeat customers.
