SP 700 Belt on Scrambler 500
I have seen a lot of posts of people running sp 700 belts on their Scrambler 500's. What are the pros and cons of using that belt instead of the stock 500 belt. I measured the width of the belts and the 700 belt is .020 thinner than the stock one. Are people installing these belts and not shimming the clutch .020 thicker? Is that good to install a thinner belt? Any comments please, including Bubba. Thanks

I run a 700 belt on mine with no problems. No, I didnt shim the clutches either. I like it over the 500 belt. I have had no slippage from it even after getting it wet. I also seems to grab a lot better. Plus it has the fins in it which help with cooling the clutches. It is also spliceless so its a lot stronger. And I also seemed to feel a little bit of engine braking from it. It did cause my machine to creep when it is in gear. But, once I got it broken in, it no longer does it.

I have heard bad things about the 700 belt on the 500 in other forums. I was told that the 700 belt has different angles than the 500 belt and will eventually eat up your clutches and causes problems such as creeping. I would stay away from that belt and just get another better aftermarket belt designed for the 500. Just what I have heard.
