Default What compression for a Scrambler 400 99

Hi, my engine won't start. I checked the compression and I got 75 psi. Do I have to put some oil in the cylinder and push the throttle to the max when I check the compression ? Would it have made any differences in the reading ? What compression should I have ?

Thanks!!!

They won't start under 100psi very well, you need 120-130 min. and 150-160 max stock for a fresh motor.

Sounds like time for a rebuild. I believe 100 to 110 is the minimum for starting it. If it won't start and it's showing 75 PSI then you need a new top end. Hopefully you weren't still on the stock piston because you might find the piston skirt has shattered on you.
If that's the case you may have all the pieces of the piston skirt in your bottom end. That's always fun. Good luck with it.

Yes, everything was stock... I'm glad to see that I'm gonna have fun... The motor had only 1100 miles on it... Last week, I checked the oil pump to find that it was not well adjusted (way too rich). So I adjusted it like it is supposed to be ( alligning the lines) but it didn't take long before the motor died. I have a dynoport pipe with a 39mm pwk card with an open airbox, do you think the oil pump should be adjusted a bit more rich than stock since more gas is going through the engine ???

armor,let me tell you a good tip,get a oil injection block-off kit,
easy to install,safer engine running,save weights,reliability...

Scramblered, I know you're probably right and I was thinking of doing it but the oil pump is very convenient. Is the block-off kit really necessary ? I mean, I could just disconnect the oil pump I suppose...

By the way Scramblered, are you still interested in selling your RCR top-end pipe ?

yes the RCR pipe is sitting around fro sale, hey if you live in quebec
i'll send it to you right out,no the block off is not necessary, and it is friendly when doing long trip but,it is just a lot safer and better for the engine to pre-mix by yourself.
