hmm, starter problem on 2002 tblazer
#1
Well, i was riding around a little bit around the house, and then i went in for lunch, i came back out, started it, but it didnt start. just made a weird sound like the battery was dead. i told my dad and he gets the battery charger. we let it charge and when it said it was charged, we tried starting it, but we just heard that clicking sound. so its not the battery. we know somethings wrong with the starter, but what might it be? thanks.

i've heard the same noise on my trailblazer before, i have a 02 tb and sometimes it's just hard to crank,i usually give it a minute and try again and it usually starts on the 2nd or 3rd try.most of the time i never have this problem, but every once and a while this happens.

there is a trailblazer 250 starter on ebay.do you go in the mud or water? if so the stater is at the bottom of your motor and i was told by my dealer never to take it into water that it will hurt the starter

If you ride in water very often you can get water in your starter and it needs to be drained out. There is a drain plug on the starter housing that you can remove to do this. Check the battery and cables first and make sure the connections are good and the battery charged. If those are ok then you probably want to pull the starter and check the starter brushes. If they are bad they are very easy to replace and much cheaper than replacing the entire starter. For replacing the starter I just tipped my quad up on end and let it rest on the grab bar. Then after removing the skid plate you're looking right at the starter. There's one starter bolt thats a little tricky to get to but with the right wrench it's not too bad.

It's the starter, I have this problem all the time. If you want to you can take the bottom skid plate off and tap the starter with a screwdriver handle it will work.

Sounds like maybe starter, but for one last cheap lookover, follow the + wire from the battery, where you find a small relay under your left rear fender (as sitting on machine). Go a little further from that relay following the positive line, and the line is split with a male/female connector. I've occasionally seen this riggle apart on scrammys. It leaves the same diagnosis, no starter, but everything else electronic works. Just plug it in again and maybe put a crimp on it. Otherwise you will have to look deeper.

One other thing I forgot to mention.Check the connection at the starter.Mine was a little corroded.Don't just look at it,you need to take it off and clean it up.You might not even notice the corrosion. If your sure it's not the battery, either.Try jump starting,if the starter works,it's not the starter either.Your lights take less amps to work than a starter does.
