How do you remove the steering post bearing on a '00 Scram 500 4x4 in order to replace it with the HPD bearing???????? Is it held in with rivits or bolts? The service manual is NO HELP on this one

The stocker should be riveted from the factory. Even the Partsland IPC shows rivets down there. By the way, you can drill the HPD unit to accept a grease zirk before you install it.

Default HELP!!!steering Post bearing???

1. Remove the lower castle nut at the end of the steering shaft.

2. Remove Front plastic hood panel to gain access to upper steering mount.

3. Lift steering shaft out of the stock bearing.

4. Drill out rivets, Angle drill does help, If rivets are already loose you can also cut them with a chisel and hammer.

5. Make sure new screws will fit through the rivet holes, if not Drill the holes bigger (This avoids stripping the heads on the new hex key screws.
6. Install new bearing and other components.

7. Do not over tighten lower Castle nut or steering will be stiff.

That is true BigBad
I am not sure if the older units didn't haveone in the shaft but all of my machines have a zerk in the lower shaft that lubes that post bearing.

Hey it may be a little trouble but if you take your gas tank off it makes it easier to drill the rivets out and drill the holes to fit the HPD part.
