Default CV boot on scrambler. help!!

Hi, I m changing the CV boot on the front of my 2002 scrambler. I have it all apart and cannot get the shaft out of the hub. I am using a piece of wood and hitting the strut out, but it is not popping out. I have been banging on it for an hour, there must be something I am missing or a trick I don't know. I thought it was held in by a spring loaded clip. Do I need to have the wheel at a certain angle and if I do get it out is it going to slide right back in??
Can anyone help me, maybe I need a bigger hammer, or is there a step I am missing.
Thanks, Denny

What all have you taken apart? If you have undone the a-arm from the bottom of the strut, it is usually hard to keep the strut on the front shaft!!

I have the wheel, caliper, and tie rod off and the A arm disconnected from the frame, 2 bolts, It is still connected at bottom of the strut,... Does the A arm need to be unbolted from bottom of strut? it doesn't look like that would make a difference. Ther is nothing holding the strut to the frame except the shaft.

Scrambler front hubs are similar to the Sportsman 500 hubs. You need to take the nut off the end of the CV and slide the bearing out, then the CV should slide out with no problems.

Yes, you have to take the hub apart too. Unscrew the cap and drain the fluid. Remove the cotter pin, castle nut, adn bearing. Now the hub will slide off. Then remove the hub bearings, the hillard clutch, and the armature plate. BEVERY CAREFUL WITH THE HILLARD CLUTCH. There are steel pins(?) that fall out easily. Now the cv joint should slide out. It is also very inportant that you keep all of the inside hub parts clean and free of dirt. Also make sure you keep everything in order. When you put it back together make sure that the bearings are seated correct on the taper is going the right way. The hub castle nut gets torqued to 10-12 ft lbs. You need to rotate the hub to a 4:00 position when you fill it. Use Polaris hub fluid, Any ATF Type F, or Mobil 1 Synthetis ATF and fill it until it leaks out.

Thanks guys, I ended up putting it in the shop and getting it done, I figured that I had to take the hub apart after banging on the thing for about 3 hours. I didn't want to get into taking the hub apart without a service manual.
There are allot of posts that say the shaft should pop out by banging on it, if you do a search, I guess that must be pre 2002.

The axle shaft will pop out of the CV Joint assembly, but not the CV joint out of the hub.
