I got an HPD chain tensioner. I have having a hard time figureing out how to install it. The instructions just aren't clear enough. OK. I already took off the chain guide and cut off the bracket. Now how do I mount it. I know that it is suppose to be behind the crossmember on the outside of the right side of the swingarm. Does the bracket get mounted parell to the singarm or on an angle. The only way that I can see to mount it is at about a 50degree angle to the swingarm. But that doesn't match the homemade drawing in the instruction. Also, If I were to mount it like that, I puts the chain about 1/8 to 1/4 " below the swingarm, when it is suppose to be 3/8 to 1/2" below???????? Thanks, That sorta helps, but mine has to be mounted on the swingarm. I just can't figure out how.

 

When you go to mount the chain tensioner remove the nylon wheel.
I think its easier with the wheel off. Then after you get it mounted use
some vise grips and clamp them to the spring loaded arm. Then just
use your foot to hold the arm down below the chain and put the wheel
back on. Adjust your chain like you usually do except you have to
measure your distance from top of the chain to the bottom of the
swingarm. The point where you measure is where the chain rest on
the nylon roller. So, you would have your roller, chain, 3/8 - 1/2 space
then the bottom of the swingarm.

That helped a lot. But, do I mount the bracket so that the holes are parell to the swingarm or at an angle?

 

Check out my pictures they are not close or anything, but maybe you can tell by them. 2nd picture. I mounted to the outside frame at an angle, works great. Mine was for the non-concentric models and I had to extend the bolt out, so...

 

Pretty much parallel. And make sure you mount it where they say or just a
little farther up the swingarm because I had the chain eat my grease
fitting away.

 

I got it mounted. Does This Look right? Here is another angle. Just a few more questions. Is there suppoes to be a spacer between the wheels and aluminum bracket? How tight is that nut suppose to be? I don't want to got too tight so that the wheel won't spin, but I also want to engage the nylon on the nut. Hereis a picture of what Im talking about. Also, where do I measure the 3/8 to 1/2" ? tension

 

That looks okay to me. The measurement point is from where the
chain rolls across the top of the nylon roller and yes there is supposed
to be a spacer between the nylon wheel and spring loaded bracket.
Just tighten the nut on the end of the wheel so that there is no side
to side movement but not so tight that the wheel won't turn. The wheel
should roll real easily.
