Explorer Power
#1
1999 Explorer 400 experiences reduced power on mountain trails. I used some GUMOUT carb cleaner as directed. It helped some but not all the power has returned. I didn't want to use too much so I tried about 5 squirts into the carb throat, each time reving the engine. Things worked great last year, then, after winter storage, it didn't run as good. How much of this stuff should I use to effectively clean any build-up? Any other ideas?

I've seen gumout work, most of the time it really doesn't help. There's no substute for taking a carb apart and cleaning it properly. You might want to pick up a polaris shop manual, it will have all the info you need to breakdown and clean your carb. Change your plug and fuel filter as well.
Good luck !!

Be careful with the gumout it will make it run real lean. I don't know if you still have stock exhaust but if you do pull the plug and make sure that the muffler is clean. This may sound stupid but you need to check and clean out the under the belt housing. Black soot build up on the clutches robbs power and performance. Just a few ideas. Good luck.
