SP400 Performance at 6000ft???
I have recently purchased a new sportsman 400 from a local dealer in Nevada and use it at 6000ft elevation where I live. I am having performance problems with the polaris and have had it serviced twice by my dealer(jetting and new gear box). The sportsman 400 runs at a top speed of 43mph and drags when climbing hills of 6-8% grades. Is this the norm for polaris at these elevations??? Or should I take it back to the Dealer again???

I don't know what your dealer is doing, maybe you might have to double check his work.
I live @ 6,700' elevation and ride around 8,000'. / The 2004 Sp 400 I bought for my son needed some tweaking, but it runs better now.
Check you tach RPM next time out running, it should have a operating RPM of at least 6,000 at WOT.
I think if my memory serves me right, we can get about 53 top end on our 400 here, and there is still room to lighten up the weights even more, as we still are not pulling the 6,000 RPM.
Our 400 does have the EBS also / I think your dealer needs to check the clutching weights and spring in the primary. I know for sure at your elevation your jetting needs to be changed, along with the Gr/Bl spring that came in your primary clutch (Stock)
P/M me if you need additional information - I'll let you know what set-up I have in mine

I am havin alot of the same problems here with mine, runs about 5600rpm's at wot unless going down hill. I have been going through this since I got my bike and so far have put in a k&n filter and the next step is a rejetting. What part of Nevada are you in? Here in Reno we run between 4500 and 7000 feet. Let me know if your dealer is RC&G.

Let me add here, if your rpm is not running up to par, you could also have an alignment issue with the clutches, the dealer would have to check that for you unless you have the tools, mis-alignment can cause the clutches not to go into full shift out. But... If you are running the stock set-up on your clutches, you can lighten the flyweights to bring the RPM into range. You could additionally change the primary spring as Sage Crusher mentioned.

SP400 Performance at 6000ft???
well I just talked to chuck and he said that 5600-5800 is normal but limit is like 6500. I am not sure if they just don't want to tune these bikes for altitude or what but I have ridden some of the older 425 magnums and they way out power my sp400. I am picking my bike up tonight from its first service so we will see how it runs with a new plug.

Well I know a new plug isn't going to fix your problem, How many miles did you go till your first service?
We have 300 miles on the 04-SP-400 and I think 500 was the service time...cannot remember...
Now as far as the your dealer...Why would someone tell us that the Normal RPM range is 1,000 rpm below the maxumn rpm??? According to my dealer, and also 2 others here out west...Polaris states in the service manual that the maxumn "OPERATING" RPM is 6,500...You need to clutch around that, and your dealer is leaving H.P. on the table if he isn't clutching to the RPM's indicated..
As NC Scrambler also stated, the alignment could also be off, and not giving complete shift out....
I bet if you asked your dealer what set-up was in the clutch, he would tell you Green/Blue Primary - 10BH weights
and if this is true..then he didn't change anything from when he uncrated the ATV...Dig out you owners manual and look in there, there is a general clutching and jetting section, and it will tell you what is recommended for you elevation and temp where you ride. Remember that this is also only a base line as it can be tweaked from there to obtain the maxumn operation RPM, which is your target..
