Hondas are good machines. And the Ruby has a slick new auto tranny that is sure a step in the right direction. But it still has drum brakes and it doesn't have independent rear suspension and it doesn't have switchable 2wd/4wd.
And a new Sportsman 500 is $6300 anywhere. I've got 50 miles on my new SP and I LOVE IT. My AutoCat 500 with 102 miles on it is back at the dealer, for sale. Silly Later, Fourlix

POLARIS RULES!! SP 500, EXP 425, MAG 325

Well I would have to say NO. Has anyone ever seen what happens when you put some sand inside an automatic transmission? Well I will tell you from experience that it is not a pretty site. The new Honda-matic works on the same principle. Hydraulic fluid being pumped through the transmission. Sand or dirt of any kind will eat that transmission for lunch.

I think the bikes uses it's engine oil as it's hydraulic fluid.

My first honda was a 300 4x4,then a 400 foreman, then a 450s,I think hondas are a great atv.I never had a problem with any of them.I sold my 99 foreman so I could buy a Rubicon because I wanted an automatic. Then I got the price I decided I was not going to pay $7000. for a atv.I went and road a 2000 sp 500 and purchased it that day for $1400. less than the honda.I have 60 miles on it now, the only thing I didnt like was coming down a hill and not having 4-wheel drive. But thanks to you guys sharing your secrets I found a way to lock in the hubs coming down hills.I realy fill that the polaris is as good or better than the honda.

Well thats even worse. Pressurized fluid generates alot of heat. If the bikes uses the engine oil then guess where all that heat is going.

Maybe one of you "Other Red" riders want to buy my 1999 TRX 300 4X4....
The dealer in Fairhope AL. is cutting prices to move some of his overstock and I'm looking to upgrade.
