polaris trans and engine oil ?

It seems a little thin for gear oil, anyone know a polaris engineer? Modquad???
On a side note in regards to changing your oil - It doesn't matter if you have swiss watch makers and german machinists making you gears you'll still get shavings in the iol and that's as good a reason as any to keep it fresh.....

When I got my Polaris, 1998 it said to use 10W 30 motor oil in the tranny, so that is what I use. Amsoil Synthetic 10W-30 motor oil. But, I think for some reason they changed that recommendation on the newer models. Going on 5 years and no problems yet. I also use the same oil for the counterbalance. It recommends 10W-30 there also.

good point,
it very well coould be just plain old engine oil.
when I worked for Honda (auto) dealer , I remember the manual trans in its car line used engine oil as a lubricant.
may be polaris is just calling it "special trans oil" and charge $8 a qt. which is normal amoung dealers/manufactures.

If you just have to have the Moly added, you could order it from Here. Of course, it might be cheaper just to go with the Polaris brand. LOL So, why did they just up and change the oil recommendation anyway?? I haven't heard of any or many transmission failure issues with Polaris's.

Hey Guys. I work at a polaris service center. The polaris transmission fluidis not motor oil, gear oil or atf. Its Chaincase Lubricant. Its available from plenty of other manufacturers. Its the same Chaincase Oil that is used in most all snowmobile chaincases as well (not just polaris) and is also used in other equipment with enclosed chaincases. Polaris Specs to use Synthetic Chaincase Lubricant in their factory service manuals for all their atv transmissions.

What other companies (besides Amsoil) makes a chaincase lube that is redily available? I can't seem to find any Amsoil dealers around here and my Polaris dealer is 40 miles away. So something that I can pick up at Walmart, NAPA or Autozone would be good.
