no one answered one of my questions. when the axle starts to drag does putting it in 4x4 help a hold lot. the reason for my questioning is because my cousin has a sportsman 400 and when the frame starts dragging he can put it in 4x4 and get out.

You better believe 4x4 helps when you start dragging. Case in point: My girlfriend and I went on an organized ride with Shoals Atv Riders. The first section was on power lines. At the bottom of the first large hill we went down, just as you start to go up the other side, there was a big rock. Reginia was on the scrammy in front of me and the rear swing arm caught on the rock and started spinning. I told her to put it in awd. As soon as the spinning started the front tires engaged and away she went up the hill.
The scrammy 500 has more torque and speed than any 4x4 I have been around. Its an absolute blast. The ONLY downsides to the quad in my mind are these:
The snorkle design on the trans is low and harder to snorkle than my kodiak.
The 4x4 system uses speed sensors and electronics to engage ( probably more maintenance in the long run). And if you want to get really nit picky and talk physics losing traction in the back BEFORE you gain traction in the front can be disadvantages in SOME situations. In most it wont matter.

hey offrder do you go through all that fast or do you take you time going though it. my cousins 400 sportsman will go though stuff like that and he go slow though it but spins the tires fast if you know what i mean.
also that that you have pictures of is like what I will be going though.

It depends how deep/thick the mud is. Some mud you need speed to start with, while some you don't. Most of the time my mentality is ***** to the wall.

Just be careful when hitting deep water (actually it doesn't even have to be all that deep).....it'll put you over the handlebars if you're not ready for the big slow down!
