Wow obie sorry to hear bout that, what are the odds of someone leaving a shop rag in the engine after "fixing" it???
or how dumb could the mechanic have possibly been?

Well it's been 10 months since this ordeal began. As of last night the issue is closed, what a relief. I think I should become a full-time negotiator, what do you think? Here's what I ended up with.
1) Dealer payed me my full purchase price for the quad.
2) Dealer payed me all of my out of pocket expenses to have the head repaired ($1000).
3) Dealer offered me a 2004 Polaris Sportsman 400 at his cost.
4) Dealer offered to sell me all accessories I needed to use my existing snowplow, disc, etc at his cost.
Needless to say I have a brand new Polaris Sportsman sitting in my garage now, WHAT A RIDE!
Thanks for all the advice!!!

Nice to hear it's all worked out. Like the others stated, we're all human, and we make mistakes. Great to hear they made it good. I still like that "quicker ripper upper" comment, now that you can look back and laugh.
