Put it up on jack stands and wiggle the rear axel. If it moves around them your bearings in the carrier are bad. I would also check to see if you have something stuck in your chain guide or if it needs to be adjusted. Do your lube your chain and grease your carrier regularly? I had clanking sound coming from mine. The chain looked OK but I replaced it anyways and that took care of the problem. I also added a chain tensionor. Did you check to see if your were missing any rollers on the chain???

Hi i had the same problem with my trail boss. The problem was the chain guide. To help the problem I lube a lot and I adjust the chain guide so the chain rests almost on the bottom of the guide so that with no one on the quad it grinds but when i sit on the quad the tension lifts the chain up off the guide a little. When I give it some gas the chain finally stops grinding the guide. ...I hope this helps
