Default HELP! SP500, DRIVE BELT FLIPPED

What is the proper belt deflection on a SP500, 2000 model with EBS, My repair manual (clymers)
says that model with EBS should always be tight, and you can not adjust this. Is this correct?
Should it be running at idle in gear to check this?

I removed my cover and my belt is not tight. Should it be?

Reason I am asking is because when I was riding this weekend I noticed a smell coming from the cover
(a hot smell) I was going to drive it into the garage but it wouldn't go.... It kinda jumped forward then stoped and wouldn't go. I removed the cover and noticed the belt was rubing on it..... and get this the belt was flipped (groved side out) I just bought this ATV a few weeks ago and it has been running fine with no problems.... the belt doesn't look like it has been flipped very long... looks like it just happened.

What would cause this? The belt has some frayed edges on it.

I am going to replace it but want to make sure all thing are right before I put it back together.

Well if the belt was running groved side out then thats more likely the reason it's hiting the cover. Never heard of the belt fliping over, maybee the belt had problems when you got it and was overly stretched. My guess would be to replace it and check the deflection of the new belt according to the service manual. If all is good you shouldn't have more problems.

Default HELP! SP500, DRIVE BELT FLIPPED

Where can I get an alignment tool online?

Or how can I check it without one.

My manual says it should be 1/8" larger gap at the front of the clutch than the rear of clutch (secondary clutch) but what is the starting point... it could be the proper gap but the whole clutch can be moved out or in.

I put a new belt on but am still kinda worried that it will happen agin.

The new belt is #3211069 which is listed in the parts manual for my ATV.
The one I took off was #3211077 what is the difference?

You may have one of two things wrong. Either out of alignment or a broken engine mount bolt. With the frayed edges I would say you need check the alignment, trouble is the tool is about $30 something. Take your 4 floorboard bolts out take the clutch cover off then go to dealer have him check it for you. Don't take 2 minutes that way. The deflection has to be checked with motor off other wise you will be missing a few fingers.
