Can ITP keep my pred from sliding?

Default Can ITP keep my pred from sliding?

Has anyone tried ITP holeshot XCT's on their pred? My quad just slides too much in the rear end with the razrs on the rear. I was just curuious if anyone has slapped on some XCT's on their preds and if it made it more controllable in the rear end??

Haven't run my XCT's on the pred yet, but on my 404cc banshee or 400cc Warrior, the 22" XCT holeshots really do hook up better than the Razers and seem to get better traction on slick rocks or other hazzards..........the 23" front tires are great too.

I highly recommend them for the bigger tire size, the 6 ply sidewall, they wear real well and last a long time, but what really sold me was the 22" rear and 23 inch fronts........more ground clearance helps out over rocks, roots, and gives you a bigger contact patch and rubber to meet the road.

I was told by ITP that the best way to control the over sliding of the back is to switch to 9" rims, and stick with the 20" tires. The sidewall will flex more, allowing it to grip better.

I went to the regular RAZR's and they to seem to work much better than the stock ones.

Hey Pud,

check out my pictures in the gallery, and I've got a picture of my "flipped" warrior rims with the 23" front holeshots mounted up on the Predator. I drilled and relocated the valve stem to the other side of the warrior rims, so you get a +3" offset per rim for +6" total wider front end..........can you say NASCAR type handling!!!! Tires grip don't slip, and the wider stance makes it corner like its on rails.........

Just watch out for sidewall catching on roots and rocks, and the +3" rims are harder on tie-rod ends as the tend to bend 'em more due to more leverage from the wider rims..........

Wider is bad for me. If anything I wouldn't mind being narrower in the tight woods sections. But I think if I went to 23/22" tire set-up on the stock 10" rims, there would be additional sidewall flex, but I also think that the smaller ***** on the xct's would grip in the sides much better than the razrs to start with. I might just try the 20" XCT on my 10" rims. I would think those ***** would offer better forward and side bite!

Do, buy, and don't think most honorable Grass Hoppa'........

Get the 22" rears and if you don't like them, send 'em over to me!

Wider is only from my flipped rims......the 23" fronts FLOAT over trail hazards that the stock tires used to bang up against. 22" keep the skid plate off the rocks........what more do you want?

I think I will try the 20" wheels first...if anything it will provide a good comparison. I want to keep the cg low, cause for some reason, we rarely see mud in our races...well, maybe it's just cause the midwest hasn't seen rain for 30 days!! But the pred has pretty decent clearance with the 20" wheels...but with a little throttle, the back end wants to wander, and in the chicanes of the woods...it gets hairy!!

'04 Predators have 9" rims in the rear.....Predators do seem too loose in the caboose. I love to slide, and I love the low center of gravity, but is the Predator too light in the rear? or is it just the tires? We put Razrs on my son's Z to get it to slide better, But 10" rear wheels on the Predator mean we can't switch tires with anything on hand.....hmmm,,,, I like the looks of that Baja X......

THe new YFZ and Honda are going to kick the sh!+ out of Predator sales.....

I don't actually have an atv yet, so I can't measure, but as I understand in cars, increasing your tire size will not increase the contact patch, if you maintain a constant psi. Consider:

(420 lbs) / (6 psi) = 70 in^2 of contact patch

As I understand, the shape of the contact patch will change, but the total contact patch size will not increase with larger tires, assuming a constant psi.

Although with the low psi of atv tires, plus the loose, deformable surfaces, they may sort of work to have a larger contact patch, since the leading and trailing edges of the tire could still be into the soft stuff (sand, dirt).

If I had an atv and different tires handy, this would be a fun experiment: Get the tires damp, but not dripping, then set them down on fresh, dry concrete. Pick it back up, and measure the wet area. Repeat with larger tires. The areas should be the same, but probably different shapes (as long as the different tires didn't screw up the weight distribution and weren't any heavier).
