I purchased a rack last year for the same reason. I went with 3 friends to ride the Paiute trail. The trail is great. SInce it was our first time we pretty much stayed on the main loop. If you are a more experiennced rider I would concentrate on the lower half of the trail. The upper half (near Richfield and surrounding towns has a lot of flat areas. Scenery is good but probally not as intersting as most of what there is too see in Wisconsin. The best part of our trip as far as the trail goes was the stretch from Marysville to Circleville. There were a lot of wooded trails, twisting climbs and decents, and great views. The terrain was a little challenging but nothin even an average rider would have any problem with. We had dry weather on our trip and rode the first week of September, right before the Jamboree. The trail is very, very, very dusty. I would try to lead as much as possible, otherwise you will be hacking dust all night. When we ate in Circleville on the day of our best ride we ate at a small restaurant named Kay's. Kay explained that if you can head south from circleville toward Moab you will also encounter some great trails and scenery. Just wanted to let you know our experiences with the trail.

Thanks for info, sounds great. We are going to spend 4 days there, we will do entire loop, leaving from Salina and returning to Salina going thru Circleville, Filmore, Richfield, Marysvalle but not in that order, I'm jetting and reclutching for altitude, We've done many rides and plan on exploring as much as posible. We are going to take 1 500 and 1 400 Scrambler, I just found a rack for 1 and already have 1 for other. How long of a ride did you go on?

We rode for 3-1/2 days. It sounds like we are doing the same exact loop. We started in Salina at the Best Western and left our trucks there. We then stayed at Big Rock Candy Mountain(near Marysvalle for 2 nights. The first night was coming down from Salina and the second night was after doing the Circleville loop. The final day we rode from Big Rock Candy Mountain through Richfield and back down to Salina. Instead of staying the 4th night and getting up the next morning to leave we loaded up and took turns driving back. I guess we rode about 300 to 350 miles total. We definitely didn't push it, most of the trails are basically logging roads and a 20 to 30mph average is no problem. Since it was our first time to Paiute we stayed mainly on the main loop. If we went back though we will definitely explore the less traveled trails. In my opinion the main loop, except for the Circleville loop, is boring. Don't get me wrong, the main loop has things to see but you see the same thing all day. The same things are almost desert like conditions with dust in your face and mountains off in the distance. The Circleville loop was the only time we really climbed mountains, rode through pine and aspen covered forests, and made steep decents. However the roughest terrain still would not have been too much for a novice rider. We saw more than one 12 or 13 year old on Honda ATC 90s covering the same trails that we were. If you are going for great scenery and a relaxing ride than the loop will be great. If you are going to Utah to encounter some somewhat challenging terrain than I would focus on the southern half of the trail. I hope you don't think I am being too negative about the trail I just got caught up in the hype of everyone we spoke with over the phone in Utah while planning the trip and as far as the trail itself was concerned we were mislead. The hospitality and accomodations were excellent.

After reading I know now we will be going to use the loop to get to the towns and explore the off trails that look interesting and will concentrate on southern trails. What did you do to prep your quad? I'm from wi. at about 1000' above sea level, I already have jets for 6000 to 9000' and will reclutch the 400 for sure but I don't know about the 500 yet. They are all new and I'm putting a clutch kit in them when I get back, but I don't want to open it up any more than I have to, my last quad was a 98 Sport and was all jetted and clutched and it made a noticeable difference. What model did you take and what did you do to it? thanks for info!!
