500 scrammy ?
#1
Just bought a 2002 500 4x4, trying to service it, does it have a counter balancer that has to be serviced ? and what kind of trans oil can I use besides polaris? Thanks guy's Oh yea, do all of them sound like the valves are ticking or maybe the clutch gets quiet just above idle. Tnx

The 500 has no counterbalance. The valves are suppose to be adjusted every 100 hours so that may be why they are ticking. They are solid lifters too, so they will be a little noisy. As for the trans oil, the only substitute that I have found for the Polaris stuff is Amsoil Series 2000 Chaincase Lubricant.

alot of the noise you hear is probley the clutch rattle , the starter gears in your pull start seem to make some noise too , or that damn decompression ball. these are all normal scrammy sounds but to be on the safe side do as bigbad says and adjust your vavles and while you are doing that and got the tank and plastic off change the plug(bugger of a job with everything on) retork all bolts and just check around general maintenance.
I will be stripping mine down soon before winter riding just to get ready retork all bolts rejet if needed change all fluids , filters , tires , plugs , check vavles . and just check for general wear
