Default scrambler trouble

I have a 2003 scrambler 4 stroke. It has started to spit and sputter even after it is warmed up. We changed the spark plug on it, and made sure the carberator was clean. We also sprayed oil out of the air filter and made sure there was no water in it. It still spits and sputters. Is there supposed to be oil in with the air filter? Just wondering if anyone knows what else it could be?

4 strokes should not have oil in the air filter unless it is a K&N. Does the spark plug have oil deposits on it? sounds like you might have a bad oil ring

Try to adjust the etc on the machine. This is done by adjusting the throttle cable till there is about 1/8 to 1/16 inch of play in the thumb throttle.

Replace your air filter. If it has oil on it it will run rich till you replace it.

Ok I will try to replace the air filter and the oil ring on it. Hopefully that will help. I will let you know for sure if it doesn't. Thank you for your help.

Did you have the machine up on the grab bar, or was it flipped over? The overflow for the oil goes into the air box. You should not have oil in there. If there is, clean it out real good, and replace the filter. If the machine was not rolled or up on the grab bar, you may want to take it back to the dealer and have them look at it.

Also, make sure there is NO water in the gas. If you don't ever use the reserve on the tank, water will sink to the bottom and congregate there. It's not a bad idea to put some dry gas in there, especially when it starts getting colder, or when it's real damp. You may even want to drain the bottom of the tank. It only takes a little water in there to make it run rough. Speaking from experience......
