2000 polaris 325 trail boss
Hey guys, a buddy of mine has a line on a 2000 Polaris 325 Trail boss 2wd, at a decent price, and he asked me to ask you guys if this is a good machine, and does it have any common problems. He is a fairly big guy, about 5'10 and about 220 lbs, will it have enough jam to move him. He is far from being a hotdog, I usually have to wait for him when we go riding. Any input will be appreciated, thanks.

The Trail Boss is a pretty good machine. Not any commonly occurring problems that I know of..besides the starters. He might want to take it for a test drive, and see if he likes the way it performs. It should have enough power to get him around the trails, but he might want to opt for something bigger. He should check out the brakes, see how many hours it has on it, how many owners, etc. before buying it. Here are the specs for it:
New Polaris 325 4-stroke engine, is air-cooled, has a fan-assisted 3-stage oil cooler and a 30 mm Mikuni carburetor (CV type).
• New red-and-white graphics.
• Rear suspension with gas-charged shock has 9 inches of travel.
• Tight-turning MacPherson strut front suspension has 6.7 inches of travel.
• Easy to use automatic PVT (Polaris Variable Transmission) with E-Z Shift reverse.
• Single-lever, all-wheel, hydraulic disc brakes and auxiliary hydraulic foot brake.
• Full floorboards and a rear cargo rack with a capacity of 125 pounds.
• Dual-beam 60-watt headlight and a taillight.
• Electric start with recoil backup.
• 3.7-gallon fuel tank.
• 5.5 inches of ground clearance.
• Tow capacity is 850 pounds.
• Body panels color: Red and white

At my heaviest, I was 205-208 pounds, at 6 feet tall, so I am/was comparable to your buddy's size. I still love my TB (same model, same year, BTW). I was far from a hot dog when I bought it, but it didn't take me too long to get it on 2 side wheels across a field. It is difficult to do wheelies on it, though. It is great for trail riding; one drawback might be that steep hills are sorta scarey, since you can't "wind" a gear on a hill, being an automatic. I don't like the steep hills myself (worked for 2 years in a trauma unit), so that doesn't bother me. I do a lot of trail riding, and also a friend and I have cut a couple of "tracks" in a large field. I get a kick out of just riding those as hard as I can. The TB has great "slide-ability", and I have had very little trouble out of it. The biggest problem with the TB I have had is that I have to be careful around deep water. The belt gets wet pretty easily.
For comparison, I/my wife also owns a 2000 Magnum 2x4. I think at this point the Magnum runs a little better, because it has been babied. But it is heavier (shaft drive, larger tires), and slides, but doesn't feel as nimble as my TB around curves, etc.
HTH.
