Default scrambler 400 rebuild???

Ok i know i just posted in a diff topic that i was going to go with a 500 but a guy is offering me a 2000
sport for 1400$ that is an awsome price but all he says is it runs. so besides compretion check what else should i look for and if i had the cylinder bored and the top end rebuild would the moter be about as good as new im not worried about parts that will wear out like tires and belts because they can easily be replaced so what do you think

I think $1400 is a good price if it runs. Find out if the top end has ever been done. If it has been done ask if he had it done before the stock piston shattered. Those stock pistons are good for breaking apart and falling into the bottom end. If that happened you might have some problems.
If he's never had a piston skirt shatter in it though you should be good to go with just a new Wiseco piston and rings. If you want to make that thing scream get a port job while you're redoing the top end. Add a pipe and clutch kit while you're at it and you won't believe how much power that 400 will put out. You'll proably have a hard time keeping the front wheels on the ground.

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

For that price the topend is no big deal. You can rebuild the topend for less than $200.Be sure to check the counterbalance for water aka antifreeze if there is water in it it could either have a bad seal(no biggie) or the balancer could be bad(very expensive).Other than that just check out the tie rods and steering post bushings along withe the swingarm bushings.
