I am thinking about getting a winch for my quad. Right now, the price for a new electric winch is a bit prohibitive and I was thinking aboout getting a manual one. Has anyone ever used a manual winch? Is it just a matter of a little more work for the user to work one? I don't mind a little elbow grease.

You should be able to get a 1500 lb rand winch off ebay for a hundred bucks or less. Cones with wiring and switch complete kit you just have to mount it.
