Default question for all you polaris guys

my question is how does that belt do iv heard good things and ive heard bad things but please be honest with me because im thinking about getting a new four wheeler

the good things about the belt drives is that they're very tunable and the only bad thing is when they get whet they slip

[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]Have riden polaris for years and have never had a belt problem..Presently own Sportsman 700 3740 miles and still got orignal belt...

some of my old Sportsman500's belts (maybe 3 out of 8) slipped in really deep water or mud.

NONE of my 3 Sportsman700s have given me a problem in the deep stuff.

the Polaris belt drive systems are the best in the business. don't think twice, just go for it!

There's a reason snowmobiles all use belt drive. Now the Nissan Murano (SUV) is available with a CVT. It's a great system that works!

If you hit the water fast the belt will slip then it drys out, I never had any probs with mine belt never slips in the mud.. the only thing that i know of that gos bad even faster if you have a clutch kit is the clutch buttons but hpd makes some really good replacement buttons...


Polaris has the best CVT out there just my, 2 cants..

The sportsman line has a much better belt intake and exhaust setup (for avoiding water) than the others. The 700/600 is even better than the 500. The scramblers are pretty susceptible to getting water in the belt housing through the exhaust port because of where it is located and the fact that it is pointed downward. The 500's are a little higher and face outward, but the 700 is much higher and I think it actually turns to the right. As long as you don't get water over the highest point of the seat where it comes up on the gas tank, you should not get the belt wet on a 700/600. Just guessing, if you get the belt wet, you will also ingest water into the carb. If you're in that deep, it wouldn't matter what type transmission you have, you will still be disabled.

I've had water get in my tranny once and caused slipping....I took out the drain plug and revved the motor a few times and it blew the water out....I put the drain plug back in and went on riding....total "down" time----about 5 minutes.

Look at it this way - if the belt system wasn't any good - then why are the "other guys" now making quads that are belt drive? The system Polaris uses has lots less problems than the "other guys", and if you haven't priced the belts yet, the "other guys" are way more expensive to replace.
