What does an accelerator pump do?
#2
An accelerator pump squirts a small blast of fuel when the thumb throttle is depressed. Its give a quick boost before the jets take over.
Sometimes people flood there bikes because they pump the gas,,,flooding the engine from too much fuel.

Accelerator pumps are very nice to have. My Harley came with an S&S Super B carb that did not have an accelerator pump. You had to use the choke every tiem to start it and had to give yourself plenty of room to pull into traffic cuz it would stall out about 1/2 the time. Not only that, but the throttle response sucked!!! Then I bought an S&S Super E carb that has an accelerator pump. HUGE DIFFERENCE. Just pump the gas and few time and she fires right up. Crack the throttle and it response instantly.

Well, the make it harder to push the thumb throttle in some cases. Plus, they are more expensive to manufacture, Id assume. I would venture to say that most 4 strokes come with accelerator pumps.
