550 big bore?
I'm in on the mod war. Don't plan on going big bore unless somebody who does them can talk me into it. Any one know who has the best price on HiComp pistons? BBS that web cam for the 500 has the same grind specs as Aaens and is cheaper. Wouldn't be suprised if that's who Aaen gets them from.

The WEB cam is more than 1/2 the price of the Aaen. That is more like my price range I was thinking about the FST 628 kit, but If I can find a place that sell the 550 sleeve and find a H.C. JE piston, then I may just go that route. $200 for a 550 kit sounds good to me. I dont want to have to run race fuel, so I will keep it around 11:1. I want to get more info on doing my own porting. I have heard that the intake ports on the 500 motors are pretty rough. It wouldn't hurt to get in there with a dremmil and smooth it out any, would it? Would the same go with the intake manifold? I have heard of the DS guys porting their STOCK intake manifolds and getting a dyno proven 4 HP. For some reason, I cant get the info on about the motorcycle pistons on JE's site.

Even Aaen is only showing 2hp gained on porting. That is after all other mods. I don't think there is much there. Talked to Rick @ RCR today. He wishes he could get more out of these motors, but it's just not there. We did not talk big bore though. He has said in a previous post that he has flow benched the head and porting did not get anymore through it. I haven't heard of JE pistons. Only ones I've heard of for these guys are the Wisecos. Aaen wants 175. That sounds a little high. I think someone should be able to beat that price.

Oh yeah I guy on another forum has FST's 600 Scrambler. He lives in PA and sent his whole quad to them. He said the torque is phenominal. He did not care about speed so it is set up as a torque monster. Here is a link to the thread. PA ATVing forum The guy goes by Fuj and is real knowledgable and easy to talk to. He did not go with the 628 because it required more modification especially to the engine case itself. It requires digging out material from the bottom of the case to clear the stroker crank. The stroker on the 600 just clears the cases.
