Since riding with a helmit on is required , I'm wanting some input on what kind of helmit is the most comfortable, Full face, open face, or half helmit?

I have a full face but I only wear it when I'm at a racing event. I prolly should wear it all the time but I don't like the feel when I'm riding trails..least we don't get **** about it here.

Go to your dealer and try them on, only you will know what fits and what does not. I would recommend a MX helmut to get a good chin guard cos if you do a face plant onto the top of your steering stem. OUCH and a few less teeth.
Just my 2 bits.

I always wear a full face helmet wether it's required or not. Way too much personal experience with face planting to not wear one. I don't feel it necisary to get a $300 dollar helmet. THe $40 to $60 ones from most places do the job for me an my family.

If you are into going fast or ride aggresively, a full face MX style helment is the only way to go. It gives you great protection. But, if you are into the slow, tecginal trails or mudding or just taking it at a slower pace, then an open face helment may suit you better. A half helment wouldnt even be a good idea on an ATV. Too many rocks and stuff to still get you on the side of your head.

i ride with a full helmet.. its the only way to ride.. unless like said above you putt around... but we all know we like to give it juice now and then...
as for not wearing one... its your choice.. but you arent helping the sport any if you crash and get killed... a helmet isnt that much of a pain in the *** to wear to risk injury over.. you can ride slow all you want.. but when a bird hits you in the eye its gonna hurt...

PS.. i had something run into my chest when i first started riding... i think it was a bat... ^^^^^^ thats why i say that.

LOL. Its funny you said that Hozed. I remember when I first starting riding, I had an old Yamaha dirtbike. I bird flew out in from of me at about 70mph and it hit my handle bars. I looked behind me to see it flopping in the wind. Poor thing, but there was nothing I could do at that speed. Now I ride with full gear AND a chest protector. Better safe than sorry.

A full face MX style is a good idea and everyone should wear one imo. LOL, I know, but I'm just a crazy redneck and I prolly won't wear one till I almost get killed.

As far as I'm concerned the only way to go is a good MX helmet. My son was going up a steep hill, caught a kicker and flipped over backwards. When the quad landed on his face the only thing that saved him was the chin guard. If he had an open faced mask who knows what would have happened. The helmet had to be discarded but he survived to ride again. It was that that changed my mind on open faced helmets, my open faced helmut sits unused in the basement.
When buying a helmut get a good one, one with removable insides so it can be washed. They can get pretty stinky if not washed once in a while.
Here is a test for you if you think because you putts around and don't go over say 10 mph. With no helmut on, run at approx 5 mph head first into a tree and see how you come out of that. Of course don't try that but you get my point. You have only one head so take care of it.
