#1
Ive got a 99 xplorer 400.Im wanting to test the radiator fan.I havent heard the fan come on for years and Im getting worried that its broke.Either that or Im one lucky fellow.Whats the easiest way to test the motor.
without alot of trouble?Should I just remove the sensor from the radiator and apply a little heat to it?Thanks.Scott

MY Xplorer 250 does the same thing. I think the fan has come on maybe twice while riding. I was worried too, so I pulled my thermostat and tried to heat it on my stove in water as suggested by the book. My problem, the thermostat temp is higher than my stove will even go. I used a heat gun to make sure it actually worked. I just can't verify the temp. Next I hooked the fan up to the battery directly with some small homeade jumper wires, just to verify it worked. I can only ***ume it works at the right temp.

On my Magnum I just jumped the two leads of temp sensor (located on the radiator). This manually switches the fan on. If it does not come on you have a bad motor. If it does turn on, then you know your motor works, but you don't know if the sensor is working.
