A friend of mine has a 00 Trail Boss and has been having problems with the chain. Well, we went riding last saturday and after about 3 hours in to our trip, we start to hear a loud grinding sound. We turn around and go back home. The next day he takes it to the dealer and gets a call saying that he needs a new tranny and its gonna be 1200.00!!! Has any one ever had any problem like this with your quad? It's only 10 months old.

If he's done lots of deep water diving with the bike, then water may have gotten into the tranny. If the oil was clean, have the dealer contact polaris to see if they will pay for the parts. If the oil was clean, that means that it most likely was a manufacturer's defect, and Polaris is normally good about honoring fixing something that isn't very far out of warranty. Anyway, polaris has a one-year limited warranty on the drivetrain. If the oil was clean and the dealership is saying there's nothing to do but dish out the $1200, and your friend has maintained the bike properly, take it to a different dealership. If he does this, I'm sure that he will have to pay labor for them finding out what's wrong, but that's alot cheaper than $1200. Let us know what the outcome is.

Well, I got a call from my friend last night and he said that he called Polaris and told them the problem. They called the dealer where he had taken his quad to see what the damage was. Polaris called him back and told him that they would pay for every thing. So I am guessing the transmission must have had some faulty parts.

In this case, it was probaly Polaris fault, and it's nice to see they fixed it.

However, many times it's riders fault. You wouldn't beleive how many people never change or even check their tranny oil, and water might in it. Plus, how many times do you see people have it revved up and slam it into gear letting grinds wail through the hills?

He takes real good care of his quad. It still looks brand new and he greases, checks the transmission fluid and sprays the chain after every ride. I think it had to be faulty.

My dealer told me the most repairs/breakdowns on his new quads sold...especially Scramblers in this case...were all for defective trannies!

I have a 2000 335. Rode it for 2hrs and the tranny started making a noise. Polaris fixed it no charge, dealer said they had a couple other 335 do the same thing. Since I got it back no problems
