Default Polaris Indy Sled Question HELP!

Hard question to answer without seeing. There is a lot of things to check before you buy. Check miles if hasnt been disconected, ski carbides ( metal bar under skis ) , Idlers ( wheels in the track ), Drive belt and clutch system, Fire her up and check the engine . See what kind of oil injection system it has, check the track (if warn badly it is very pricey to replace). My guess on the year is 96-98 600xc. Keep in mind if your not familar with sleds it is alot more expensive for parts than on quads. J.M.O.

Sorry if I didnt help much, I wish you were closer to me so I could check it out for you.

Default Polaris Indy Sled Question HELP!

idk a lot but all of my friends have sleds. and i figured its time to get one finally, means my best friend just bout a 98 600 skidoo sled. i figured i want to ride w/ them means a lot of trails wont let me ride my quad on them. so i figured its time. but i mean 600 bucks is cheap the reason the windshield is cracked is they guy drove up a guide wire on the road and it flipped i think.

i know a new track is 300 bucks so if its shot i will have to look for a good used one. or not buy. but i mena if its in decent shape i could re sell it for 1200 bucks or so and get it sold. but idk if i will buy yet. dad dont know if he wants me to have a sled. he used to have one. a suzuki and a AC but that was back in the day when they werent the quality they were now.

i could by my friends old skidoo citation 440 1982!!! NOT. but im gonna look at the indy on friday. the snow is coming and i hope it does so i can drive it home.. ne more help would be great guys. im thinkin its like a 1992-1997

Default Polaris Indy Sled Question HELP!

Do a compression check on all three cylinders. It sounds like a 600 in the agressive chasis. A heavy beast it is that is for sure. My guess is the shocks need to be rebuilt 30-35 bucks a piece. The track can be had on ebay for 100-500 bucks depending on what you want. If the engine is ok check the clutches. If they have high miles its time for a rebuild. If you do the rebuild complete kit will run around 100 bucks for all the bushings, buttons and rollers. Parts do tend to run more price wise but if you hunt and are patient and do your own work it won't kill ya. Also plan on chaning the fluid in the chaincase and check all the bearings out on the wheels. If they wobble at all the bearings need to be swapped. 6 bucks a piece if you hunt for them. If the engine is good and the chasis is straight and the front suspension is in good shape I would jump all over it. Make sure the motor mounts are not cracked also. If the motor is bad walk away from it. The 600's were notorious for throwing cranks! You get into phasing the crank new pistons and bore and nicasil coating you are going to end up with 800 dollars easy into the motor before labor. Then your pushing the blue book on it and would be better off buying a running machine. Jay

Default Polaris Indy Sled Question HELP!

well i think if it looks good, not to bad of shape, runs good on all cylinders, and the track/skis, wheel rollers are good. i looked up blue book price on a 1990 and for a indy lite the 340 one of the cheaper ones retailed for 1000 bucks so i figured a 1994 or so would retail for 1400 or so but i wont buy if i dont think its worht it.. my friend that knows sleds is gonna go look at it w/ me and he will tell me if its worth it.. i mena only gonna be rode 20 times all year probly depending on snow.

Default Polaris Indy Sled Question HELP!

Sounds like it may be an XLT.....Very good sled...the 583/600 tripples in '96-97 had some crank issues when they first came out....but generally the problem would surface within the first 1500 miles if was going to go. Some of the oil holes to the bearings weren't drilled and chamferred properly from the factory...causing lack of lubrication. There wasn't really any problems with the earlier years. Once the problem was fixed properly the engines were great! Even in poor condition, $600 is a good price on that sled...but remeber to check over crucial areas as mentioned, you could end up putting more money into it than you want. In good condition $600 is a awesome price!

Default Polaris Indy Sled Question HELP!

I have a Polaris indy sled. There is a picture in my pics. I can't tell you a lot about it except it is a 2 cycle 3 cylinder 1996 year I believe and it will do 100+ mph. I had it out last weekend and was pulling 10 neices and nephews on sleds behind it. ( No not at 100 mph.) Go to partsland.com and look at the sled parts ( Decals ) and you probably can figure out what it is.
