I get that same feeling all to often, I started rideing in the 4th grade alone above my house with friends on my old Yamaha BW80 then picked up a XR250 in 90'. I bought a beat TRX200SX to haul hunting stands into the woods only to find that ATVing is just as fun. I dont ride as much now as i used to threw my highschool days, but there is no feeling as good as exploring new trails and areas that none else has been on a bike or quad. Now that I have a GPS and a Sat phone i can start exploring even deeper into the woods

If you wish to continue having those feeling and then being able also take care of them come Saturday morning you need to see my post in the land and enviroment section of this forum. If we don't fight for the right to ride we all lose..

Ron,

I hear ya. I'm only 15, but I understand. I got my Mag 500 at about 7:00 on a Thursday night in April. Didn't get much time to ridethat night, and I had to sit through school the next day. It was torture. When I got on the trails that weekend, I was happy doing 10mph. I had just moved here to Whiting, NJ, and was amazed at the trail system.
Recently though, I wanted a warrior. You know the feeling...Wanting to go faster...Your post and my dad talked me out of it though. Your right. More people should slow down and look at what they're missing while they drive by at 70mph. Thanks!

I started off with dirt bikes, a Kawasaki 120, then a DT-1 Yamaha 250 Enduro. That bike endured many modifications. Then I got serious,
became a motorcycle mechanic at age 16, got a 250
Maico and raced motocross and TT. It was a most glorious time of life. Plus I was hangin'out with guys in their 20's and 30's and tuning, porting and fixing their bikes.
Then I went to 4x4's. I had a '71 Blazer,
all hopped up for the desert. Of course, real
4x4 guys had jeeps, no one understood the potential of big rigs back then. I ate them for lunch. I would routinely go 85 mph down narrow
sand washes around Tucson. It was a glorious time.
Then I got an old 911 Porsche. It was rusted and bondo-ed and fast as hell. It was a
glorious time.
I went off to college and got rid of all my
fast toys. I got into music and rock n roll and
the girls, oh god the girls. It was indeed a glorious time.
I have a beautiful blonde wife I met in college and 2 great sons and life is indeed glorious, but I missed those thrills from earlier days. My family flat out told me I could not have a dirt bike, "too dangerous" they all said.
You have too many responsibilities!! I had a shiny little 944 Porsche for a while, but it sat there most of the time, too small for the town run, and kids and groceries. I found an old 71
Blazer and restored it, but it wasn't the same.
Rebuilding it was fun, but after the work was done, the thrill was gone.
So my 11 year old son starts the pitch for a
4-wheeler last year. Not as dangerous, good experience, I bought him a 325 Trail-boss. A week later I bought a 325 Magnum 2x4, modest but fun machines. The thrill was back!!
So this year we traded in his Trail Boss on
425 EXP, kept the 325Mag, bought an AutoCat, kept it for 2 weeks, took it back to the dealer and I
bought a Sportsman. It is a glorious time.
Silly Later, Fourlix

Ron,
What a great post.I get the same feelings myself about the great sport of ATVing. My wife supports me as well. She has no choice either. My quad is my best friend, and,
''TILL DEATH DO WE PART''

Many times I catch myself day dreaming of an up coming ride and the adventures it will bring for myself and my riding friends. What about the wildlife, hills,or terrain we will encounter on our next journey?Do I bring along the film or the camcorder?Perhaps both?

Im headed out in mid July for 4 days of nothing but riding-riding-riding,and right now,''I GOT THE FEELING'====Bill

It doesn't matter what you ride or how you ride it, it only matters that you just ride. Until the old honda's are in one piece again, i will ride the old atc 200 and even the old allis-chalmers mower. Nothing can stop the urge to ride!

Awesome Post,
I sometimes go to the garage, tinker around on the various projects, but nothing gets me going as much as ljust staring at my Banshee and looking , starting it up just to idle for a bit. Thinking, "Man, I cant wait to get you out and play again" All I will be doing this week is getting ready for a 5 day "High performance" camping trip at the dunes near Walden, Colorado. Everybody have fun and play as safe as "possible." Its going to be a long, torturous week, thank goodness it starts Thursday!

As I read your post I felt as if I was reading my own thoughts! I too experience the same feelings you describe when I am driving, reading, looking at a photograph or whatever. I get almost childlike when we are preparing for one of our BIG trips. Planning and preparing days in advance so as not to forget anything that might spoil the fun. Pouring over every detail to the point of losing sleep from anticipation. My family and friends understand, but aquaintances and co-workers sometimes ask "whats the big deal?"
I only hope for their sake they have something in their life that gives them the same feeling of exhileration that I and my friends and family get when we venture out on a new trail. Cruising down a new trail early in the morning wondering what the day will bring. Looking forward always to that next mud hole, winding wooded trail, or big hilly sand pit to play in.
I also wonder sometimes if the people who fight to restrict or keep us from enjoying the sport we love have ever experienced any of these feelings first hand. What a pity for them if they havent. I think, how empty their lives must be if their sole purpose in life is to fight to take away other peoples freedoms.

I hate dancing - that is, on my feet. But when I am on my Magnum, I can just hear the music. Sliding sideways on the gravel, going up a dune, going slowly down a steep hill with loose rocks, the bike wanting to get it's back ahead of you. Or just leaving the house on weekends on the bike, just riding, climbing to the top of a hill, spotting the next one, finding the way there. It's glorious.

I am just getting back in to atving, I grew up on a Honda fourtrax 250 utility but I always thought that thing was the greatest ride in the world. Ron I know to well that feeling you get when you see trails or a track from the rode and think how good it would be to get out there and give it a try. I travel for a living so I see all kinds of hills, woods, trails, etc. everyday and all I want do do is get home and ride, its enough to drive a guy nuts sometimes. Just this week I have been from St. Joseph Mo. to New York city then to Bridgeport West Virginia and up to Rochester N.Y. where Im at right now. It is good to see that everywhere I go I see atvs and trails.

Ron I just gotta tell you this was a nice post even though you made me a little home sick.

Ride on brothers
