I know Krylon or Rustoluem now make a spray paint just for plastic. I don't know how good it is. I've also seen quads that have been airbrushed with certain stuff. Most likley whatever it is painted with it can be scratched or scuffed off by the little accidents we are accustomed to.

If you ride trails, then it wont even be worth the work. No matter what you do to it, it WILL scratch and come off. That stuff isn't that great.

there is a new spraypaint out, I think it's made by Krylon, its called Fusion. I got some at Walmart but I havent got up the nerve to try it yet. It supposedly works great and sticks to the plastic well. I plan on painting the silver on my black and silver 700 all black. They have several basic colors. I just dont know what you would do if you didnt like how it came out. I have seen regular spraypaint used and it looks horrible.
