I am concidering buying a Polaris 425 expedition 5 speed manual shift. I am looking for imput on how it compare's to others out there on the market such as Honda 450s , and Yahama Kodiak. I would also like to know if any owners have had any problems with the Polaris, both pro's and cons would be much appreciated.

Hey buffalobill,
I have a 2000 Xpedition and I love it. I have had no problems with the machine through 1 hunting season and 1 ice storm cleanup, it worked great. I use the X425 mainly for hunting and working on my 900 acres. One thing really impressed me about the X425 during the ice storm, I had a 30-35 foot cedar tree go over and many other large oak limbs to clean up and the X425 pulled them all, even the whole ceadr tree. I had the tractor out to do the work, but then I decided to try the X425 and I was impressed. I ride and hunt with a few guys that have Yamaha Big Bears and 500 Suzukis and all the machines work very well. I like the polaris because I go about 230 lbs. and the other machines kinda feel small under me. But it is really my personal prefernce. I bought mine from a dealer that sells Polaris, Yamaha, and Suzuki and I rode the Sportsman 500, Xpedition 425, 500 King Quad, Grizzly, and Big Bear before I decided to go with the Xpedition 425. If you are a hunter, the X425 is nice to creep along in the woods, you can putter along in 2nd or 3rd and the noise is minimal. On my place I have eased up on deer without spooking them, I got to with about 30 feet of 3 doe and 2 fawns on the road in my woods and they just walked off after I came to a stop. My other 4 wheeler (2 stroke) would have sent them packing long before I could have seen them.
Hope this helps ya....

buffalobill;
I've had a Honda 400, then a Honda 450ES, and now a Polaris Expedition 425. I really love this machine's ride and quietness. So far, I haven't had a single problem except the crappy tires that came with it (just got a set of Blackwaters). Yes, it is slightly more tippy than the Hondas, but that's the price paid for longer travel suspension. I've only got about 500 miles on the
Expedition, but I'm happy so far. Just my 2 cents.

Hey I'm looking to trade the Cat in next spring when I get a little money and am considering the Xpeditions. The CAT just has too much body roll (caused me to flip once) but when I went down the same trail with the King Quad we used to have and our Xplorer, they didn't flip and felt quite stable.
Anyways, I think the 400AC has more power than I need and was thinking about either of the Xpeditions. I don't know if I should get the 325 or 425. Is it true that me 250 2-stroke produces more power than the 325 4-stroke? Also, I've heard some of you Sportsman owners complaining about overheating. The cat has never overheated and I was just wandering about the Polaris Liquid cooling system. So just give me your opinions because I have a lot of time to decide.

I love my xpedition 425 cc 5-speed to. I have had some overheating problems. It is finally solved. First I had torn up some wires underneath near the bottom of my rad. Got them replaced at the shop. They did not charge me. Then my backup fan was not working either. They replaced the sensor. They did not charge me for that. My xpedition was overheating again after driving between 10 and 20 miles per trip. At those times I would shut off the machine and let it cool and drive on. What I found out was that, I thought my rad. was clean but I was only wasing it with a hose at home and the pressure I could get from a nosile is not enough to clean the rad properly. My rad is clean now and now I bring it to a neighborhood car was that has an outside lane and it has a high pressure water gun. I stop there now after use. I can again drive all summer in 95 degree heat with out an overheat problem. I just had to get my initial bad parts replaced on my xpedition and learn how to keep my rad clean. I would like to get better protection for underneath my rad., as I sometimes drive right through the woods and nock down small trees and drive over stuff and push partially downed trees out of the way, and sometimes the grass is high and you cannot see whet your driving through. I still drive in these places. I like the quiet 4-stroke low end power. I grouse hunted last fall with my xped. and It was my most enjoyable season. I have not had any tie-rod problems or cv joint breakdowns of any kind yet. Just, minor rad. problems, all fixed now. I have 800 miles on my xped. now. I bought it in may of 99, so I have just started on its second season. I bought super mud tires for it. 26 inch mud bugs with itp magnum billet alluminum rims. I bought pregressive lift heavy duty front springs with cams that raise up the front end body by about 1.5 inches. It is some machine. rangerchet

Thanks for the reply RangerChet! I think that I will go with the Xpedition 425. A dealer in Florence, Al (about 30 miles West of me) has them advertised for $5399. I think that is a great deal!!! I hope that he still has something like that going on this Spring. Thanks again.
