Cold Temp. Starting Tips
Hello I store my bike out at my camp in Northern Ontario and sometimes do not start it for 3 weeks or so, at times it will fire up quickly but if the temp is down to -20 deg. celcius I have a hard time, I usually give it full choke and do not touch the gas,but if it does not start and I have travelled 2 hours to get there I am a little bummed out. Any tips are appreciated.
Thanks

Engine heater from Polaris. They have an oil tank heater too. What machine do you have?

Did you turn your fuel off then it was sitting for 3 weeks? Even if you did try turning your valve off and try starting it with the choke on. I might start that way. Don't know why but that method has worked for me a few times when my bike has sat for a week or two in the cold.

I read in a atv mag ( ATVrider it is a Canadian mag ) That isopropyl alcohol in small quantities added to your fuel will help with cold starts. I have not tried this myself yet but I most likely will once the weather gets a little colder. Ether works well. The vehicle I drive at work is a 1966 diesel and is very cold blooded. A quick shot in the air intake and it starts right up.
