would i be able to tell if my counter balance was bad? i have been so worried about it and tonight i filled
it with the 70ccs of 10-30 and it ran all over the floor so i got to digging and there is no plug in the bottom of the case so what would i look for to tell if its bad. im going to get the plug tomorrow
so what do you think?? one more thing what does the counter ballance do??

Tell me you didnt add oil to the 250? The 250 has no counterbalance. Thats why they shake so much. There is no need to add oil becaust the injecter oil provides just enough oil to the bearrings.
Now if you are talking about the 400 then that is a different story. The counter balance is made to smoothen out the shaking in the engine. It is a weight on the crank. So when the piston goes up the weight goes down. This helps keep the crank in balance hence a smoother running engine.

The counterbalancer really doesn't go bad ,it's the bearings that go out due to lack of oil or the water pump seal lets water into the area. The counterbalancer is a totally separate piece, that is gear driven from the crank and it spins at the same rpm's as the crank. Not checking the oil level,or catching water or coolant in this area is probably the biggest cause of failure on these motors.

Since the water pump is mounted on the end of the balance shaft - the first possible signs of balance shaft bearing failure is the coolant in the balance shaft oil sump. Any time a water pump repair is made, the balance shaft should be inspected for bearing wear.
